Holmes Campus Development

We hope you have heard about the Prop S improvements to come for our school and the schools in the district. If you are new to Holmes, they you may not know of them. Even during the district's budget crisis, San Diego voters passed the Proposition S bond measure in the fall of 2008. The measure stipulates that each school in the district is slated to receive about $2M+ of improvements over the next 16 years or so. Holmes is expected to receive renovation and/or replacement of structures, additional parking, a Joint Use track and field, and more. The specifics improvements we have been promised can be listed at the following link: http://fpcprojects.sandi.net/Pages/Reports.aspx?SchoolName=9147

We are among the middle group of schools to receive improvements, not the first and not the last, and our phasing was actually bumped up from the original date given. Planning for the improvements and Joint Use field may begin as soon as 2013---just 2 years away. In the year 2013 or 2014, Holmes should start with the district-run Prop S planning process, which will include the steps necessary for entering into a Joint Use agreement with the City of San Diego. The planning will be coordinated by a district Project Manager and will utilize a Task Force made up of volunteers from our school and neighborhood communities. The district and task force will work for approximately 3-4 years on the planning, and it is likely that the process will be completed in the year 2016 or 2017, with construction expected to begin at that time.

The district has already used some Prop S funds to provide elementary schools with s "Smart Boards" (i.e. Promethian boards) and laptop "Netbooks" and more. This is part of the technology focus that has been a part of the Prop S bond measure.
